Black Bee Honey is a non-profit business founded by the youth in the Parramore Kidz Zone program. The business started with the dream of providing youth an opportunity to learn firsthand entrepreneurship skills while simultaneously enriching the lives of their community members by providing raw honey.
I was able to show the students the process and importance of design and marketing, presenting to them multiple times. Our first meeting began identifying their audience and brainstorming names, then sketching logos with them, when I then refined and presented back to them for them to pick their favorite. We continued on making promotional material and uniforms.
This start-up business, run by PKZ youth, offers high quality honey for sale at the Parramore Farmers Market while providing work related educational and entrepreneurial experiences, further developing the youth of the Parramore Community into future workforce leaders.
Because of their local success and news coverage, the Steve Harvey show found out about their story. Some of the students were flown out for a taping in California, and Steve Harvey arranged for their products to be sold on igourmet.com, with a large proceed of the sales going back into the PKZ program and to the Black Bee Honey students.
